Head of Data Analytics

Role Overview

As Head of Data Analytics, you will be responsible for developing and driving the overall strategy and vision for data at amaysim. 


You are an astute analyst and data practitioner with a demonstrated ability to think strategically about business, operations and technical challenges. You are able to synthesise complex problems and communicate them in a simple, understandable and engaging way to a wide range of audiences. You will have a keen commercial acumen, are curious and passionate about analytics and its application across all aspects of a business. You are able to inspire a team of skilled professionals and relentlessly strive to learn and improve.


Purpose of role:

  • Develop and drive all business analytics efforts across amaysim including data modeling, data standardization, data visualization and other business analytics
  • Build a data science practice that will empower the business and continuously set the standard for quality, personalisation, measurement and business effectiveness

Job Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Chief Commercial Officer your responsibilities will include:

  • Champion data as a strategic business asset
  • Support a variety of revenue and cost impacting initiatives through complex data modeling, sampling, and analysis projects that has applicability across geographical boundaries and customer segments
  • Lead a continuous learning environment with respect to utilizing the latest methodologies, technologies, and illustrative best practices to tell stories which can drive business decisions
  • Collaborate with business leaders to identify and prioritize the highest impact analytics and data initiatives
  • Drive operational excellence through optimization and efficient utilization of data infrastructure and services
  • Participate in technical review of 3rd party tools, including: Analytics, Attribution, CRM, Mediation, Advertising and Monetization tools – drive the “build vs. buy” analysis
  • Ensure that data aggregation and analysis adheres to industry best practices and constantly pushes the boundaries of ‘best in class’
  • Hire, mentor and train a team of analysts to deliver KPI reporting, performance forecasting, behavioural analysis and predictive modelling
  • Work with internal engineering team and provide guidance on tech stack and platform tools necessary to build an industry leading analytics platform
  • Provide actionable insights that will help make our products better and our customers happier. This includes statistical analysis and machine learning models
  • Ensure end to end processes are documented and centralised
  • Process improvement & automation
  • Help create a culture of self-sufficient reporting and business insights


Your goal is to ensure the team have the information and tools to make data driven decisions as well as provide recommendations based on deeper analysis to reach and exceed their group goals.

Qualifications and Skills

Required Skills:

  • 8+ years of experience leading and building strategic data teams in high growth companies; preference for e-commerce experience
  • Degree (Masters/MBA preferred) in Computer Science, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics or related technical field
  • Eagerness to apply data solutions to novel disciplines and a passion for working with teams of varying technical ability
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. The ability to influence and collaborate with the business to provide data and analytics leadership to both technical and non-technical staff is key
  • Strong leadership abilities and strategic management skills, including senior executive interaction
  • Experience with statistical computing in R or Python
  • An expert in working with large, complex and disparate data environments and with modern data science practices including machine learning, econometrics and predictive analytics
  • Commercial acumen and high attention to detail with a flare for data integrity and the ability to track down data inconsistencies.
  • Proactive, strong sense of curiosity and ability to work autonomously.
  • A strong problem solver who thrives on new challenges.


Nice to have skills:

  • Experience with large-scale analytics projects using AWS stack.
  • Experience with Alteryx and/or Tableau.
  • Experience with Marketing Automation and CRM systems.
